Maybe Burke is a New York based director, choreographer, writer, performer and trans advocate interested in telling the stories that haven't been told. They are excited by new material that can honestly and realistically portray people who aren't typically seen on stage. Their work has been seen at Joe's Pub, Cherry Lane Theatre, Ars Nova, HERE Arts Center, New Dramatists, NYMadness, The Flea, The Duplex, and more. Maybe is a co-curator of the Trans Theatre Festival at The Brick. Love Letters to Nobody or Insignificant Others, Maybe's solo show, premiered in the Trans Theatre Festival in 2016.
Maybe recently directed multiple excerpts of plays by Sylvan Oswald, Michael Golamco, and Qui Nguyen for New Dramatists' After Seven Festival. Other directing credits include Jesse Geguzis' Fuck Over Fuck Under as a part of F*ckfest at The Brick and Amy C Morton's Presence and Respect at WOW Cafe Theater.
As the Artistic Associate of Honest Accomplice Theatre, Maybe founded The Trans Literacy Project, in which they are collaborating with trans artists, advocates, and activists to produce accessible and educational videos which address questions about trans experiences. Maybe has also spoken on many panels and done several workshops around trans and queer identities. They have spoken at BroadwayCon, The Tank, The Brick, Dixon Place, and multiple High Schools and Universities.
